How we check places
Every listing on this site shows where its dog policy came from and the date we last checked it. We never guess whether a place takes dogs.
We use three kinds of source, in this order: the venue itself, by email, or its own website or FAQs; trusted guides that record dog policies, such as CAMRA's pub guide; and tourism and council visitor listings.
Each listing carries one of three labels. Confirmed by the venue means the place has told us its dog rules directly. From the official site means we checked the venue's or operator's own published policy, such as the National Trust or English Heritage. Awaiting confirmation means the place is listed as dog friendly in a trusted guide and we've asked the venue to confirm the details, but haven't heard back yet. Call ahead for these.
Where a detail such as a dog fee isn't published, the listing says Not confirmed yet rather than guessing. If a venue tells us it isn't dog friendly, we take it off.
We also list places that don't allow dogs inside, so you know before you set off.
